The Contemporaries of the Columbia Museum of Art First Annual Young Artist of the Year Soiree and Silent Auction - November 4th 2004

At the Young Artist of the Year Soiree, attendees had the opportunity to bid on 62 artworks from 31 up-and-coming artists from across South Carolina. The artists were selected for inclusion through a competition and were judged by a group of jurors that included Mana Hewitt, gallery director of McMaster Gallery, Toni Elkins, artist and president-elect of the S.C. Watercolor Society, John Daso Gregory, artist, Beth Inman, decorative arts curator at the Columbia Museum of Art, and Booth Chilcutt, cultural director of the city of Sumter. Alex's work was selected and he showed two paintings "Destiny" and "Purity" from the "Restoration Series" at the event.

This one month solo exhibition featured 10 paintings from Alex's "Approaching Release" Series. Alex
was able to talk with many of the students at his reception and was invited as guest instructor for Wil Bosbyshell's Illustration classes for
a day. He also conducted an illustration competition for those students through "The Holy City Chronicle", a Christian newspaper for which he served as the Art Director.
